Supporting those who are hurting in schools across Sussex –

TouchBase offers:
• Developmental Trauma Vulnerabilities Assessment & Individual Development Plan (2-3 years) from an Education perspective

• Specialist consultation or supervision with Louise Michelle Bomber

• Follow up supervision with Key Adults

• Attachment & Trauma Aware support groups in Brighton & Hove for education staff who are part of pupil teams – half termly – free to those in Brighton & Hove

• Attachment & Trauma Aware training and support for adoptive parents termly including: transition from primary, starting school, Theraplay, regulation, PACE….free to those in Brighton & Hove

• Creation of a Safe Space in the named school, especially helpful for pupils who run or hide

• Attachment strengthening project at PLOT 22 – an allotment project where the pupil together with their Key Adult works the land, reaps from the land, cooks and eats together. This shared experience can often kickstart the attachment system so that pupils can then utilize their exploratory system in the school context. Relationship need to be our starting point. Especially helpful for complex trauma.

• ‘Understanding the brain and the nervous system’ lesson for the whole class or form group.

• Stressbuster training for selected year 5s/6s to facilitate regulation for their peers at break times

• DDP work – the child or young person together with their parent/carer. Check out the DDP UK website for more info on this effective way of supporting those who have experienced relational trauma and loss

Therapeutic parenting groups

• Consultation with a Consultant Paediatrician with an interest in Developmental Trauma and Loss for any members of the school team or family (East and West Sussex only)

• Consultation –Assessment – Direct intervention with a Senior Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapist with advanced training in Sensory Attachment Intervention for the school team and family (East and West Sussex only)

• Very shortly – pet therapy

For those schools wanting to become Attachment Aware at least two full INSET days are recommended. It is then strongly advised that two members of staff (one senior manager and one TA/Mentor) are selected to attend the 7 day modular training to become Attachment Leads in their school to keep the momentum going.
